In response to the ILOVEYOU worm, Microsoft is preparing a patch for its Outlook software that adds greater security to the program. The soon-to-be-released patch will make it far more difficult to inadvertently launch attachments received via e-mail. The patch will provide a more explicit warning and prevent attached executables from being launched directly from e-mails. Instead, they will have to be saved to a disk and launched in a separate process. Could this spell the end of mass e-mail viruses such as Melissa and ILOVEYOU?
