From the Forums: Monitor refresh rates

Recently, TechRepublic member ChrisIS posted a question about monitor resolutions and refresh rates in the TechRepublic Forums. Up for grabs were 150 TechPoints. Find out who took home the prize!

You’ve been there before. You’re trying to figure out which monitor to purchase, but can’t decide which one has the refresh rate that would be best for you and your system. TechRepublic passport owner, ChrisIS, recently experienced the exact same problem, until he brought his question to the TechRepublic Forums. ChrisIS put up 150 TechPoints for the person who could offer him the best suggestion.

The question at hand
ChrisIS recently posted the following question in the Support Republic Other Forum:

“I’m trying to determine what Omniview monitor to purchase. One monitor states it handles resolution from 1280 x 1024 at 80 Hz and the other claims that it can run at 1600 x 1200 at 65 Hz. If you run your resolution at lower than 1280 x 1024, as most do, does the hertz have to be set 65 and below for the one model to work? If so, would the other monitor that goes to 80 Hz support all hertz up to that point? Also, which model would be considered more acceptable over the other?”

The winner is…
TechRepublic member, resmith, who suggested the 80-Hz monitor over the 65-Hz monitor, answered ChrisIS’s question and was awarded the 150 TechPoints. If you wish to see what else resmith had to say about the monitor purchase, visit the post.
