When you need to obtain a total of all values within a particular time period, there is no need to sort the Excel data first. You can combine the SumIf and DATE functions to total only those values that will occur within a certain date range.
For example, suppose you are preparing a budget for software licenses that are to be renewed for the second half of the year. You have a worksheet that lists each license, the license fee, and its due date. You need the total license fees that must be budgeted after
- Select the Due_Date column, click in the name box in the formatting toolbar, and enter DueDate.
- Select the License_Fee column, click in the name box in the formatting toolbar, and enter LicenseFee.
- Click in a cell outside the list and enter the following formula:
Excel will total all license fees that are due on or after
