Deal Streamlines Services Procurement Process for IT Pros;
Positions TechRepublic for Future Growth Opportunities
LOUISVILLE, Ky., August 28, 2000—As part of its growth strategy, TechRepublic (www.techrepublic.com), the leading online destination developed exclusively for IT professionals by IT professionals, announced today its acquisition of ITRadar.com, an emerging business-to-business information technology marketplace connecting buyers and sellers of information technology services.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. TechRepublic is an independent subsidiary of Gartner Group, Inc. (NYSE: IT and ITB).
ITRadar and its 75 employees will continue to operate from its Minneapolis location.
The acquisition will provide TechRepublic’s more than 800,000 registered members easy access to ITRadar.com’s established network of 3,800 IT services firms offering IT implementation, consulting, and staffing solutions in more than 50 local markets across the United States and Canada.
The deal enables TechRepublic to accelerate the expansion of its e-commerce offering, as the company embarks on a new phase of growth and development that will add new products, services, and partners to its award-winning site.
Created by industry experts, ITRadar helps IT pros achieve better results, increase levels of quality service, and save valuable time when searching for and selecting an IT services provider. According to ITRadar data, more than three-fourths of all IT pros say that finding the IT services solution that best meets their needs is their number one priority.
ITRadar’s proprietary technology streamlines the vendor-selection process and enables corporate IT services buyers to more rapidly identify, evaluate, and engage with IT services providers. To reach the ITRadar marketplace, TechRepublic members have access from the TechRepublic home page, as well as contextually relevant links from thousands of technology-related articles throughout the TechRepublic site. This deeply integrated presence enables TechRepublic members to rapidly access the right IT services providers from ITRadar’s extensive network of more than 3,800 firms, ranging from call center implementation to knowledge management strategy to e-business transformation.
“ITRadar.com is a perfect addition to the TechRepublic community,” said Tom Cottingham, founder and chief executive officer of TechRepublic. “ITRadar has an extensive IT network and a proven technology platform that give us an immediate competitive advantage in the IT marketplace.”
“TechRepublic and ITRadar is an excellent marriage between the premier IT community on the Web and the dominant IT services B2B marketplace,” said Max Smith, president and chief operating officer of TechRepublic. “TechRepublic is revolutionizing the relationship between buyers and sellers of technology. As we lead that revolution, we are consistently evaluating our buy-versus-build strategies. ITRadar is an ideal buy for us.”
“We are excited to become part of TechRepublic because it works for our business on so many levels,” says Don Peterson, president and chief executive officer of ITRadar.com. “TechRepublic not only brings its membership of nearly one million IT professionals into our marketplace, but there is also the opportunity to leverage the incredible wealth of content that both TechRepublic and Gartner provide. More importantly, we can contextually link IT professionals from that content into our IT services marketplace, where they can find the expertise they need to actually get solutions up and running. We are pleased that TechRepublic and Gartner have selected ITRadar.com as the most promising platform for building the number one IT services exchange.”
The worldwide IT services marketplace will continue its pace as the largest and fastest-growing segment in the IT industry as it climbs from $605 billion in 1999 to more than $1.3 trillion in 2004, according to the latest forecast by Gartner’s Dataquest.
“All trends point to tremendous growth in the IT services area. We are poised to take advantage of this growth as we continue to move TechRepublic forward,” added Smith.
ITRadar will continue to market its embeddable and private-label version of its service to partner sites. ITRadar aims to make its IT services marketplace the standard for sites catering to IT buyers and technology decision makers.
