Welcome to the new TechProGuild

To celebrate TechProGuild's fifth anniversary, we've updated the site and added features—all for the same price. Here's what you'll find at the new TechProGuild.

As you've probably noticed, the TechProGuild home page has undergone a few changes. But it's not the only thing that's changed. To celebrate TechProGuild's fifth anniversary, we've enhanced the service to make it a much better solution for your IT problems. Here's what you'll find as a member of the new TechProGuild.

A brief history of TechProGuild

TechRepublic first launched TechProGuild in 1999 as a premium subscription service to provide in-depth technical articles detailing solutions for common IT problems. In addition to articles on the Web site, members could access and read the content of 15 computer-related books. By today's standards, that doesn't sound great; but at the time, it was a big feature. Finally, TechProGuild members had a choice of selecting one print journal from the various TechProGuild tracks.

As the years passed, we improved TechProGuild. In conjunction with Books24x7, we added the Tech Books library, which gave members access to over 200 computer-related books, along with the ability to read and search the complete text of the books online. Rather than limiting subscribers to one monthly printed journal, we converted the journals to PDFs and allowed subscribers to download any of them. Eventually, we merged the various individual track journals into one TechProGuild Report to highlight the best articles of the month. All the while, we continued to create new, original, in-depth technical articles—amassing more than 3,600 solutions-oriented features.

What has changed

As TechProGuild approached its fifth anniversary, we decided to update some features and add new ones to make TechProGuild more responsive to subscribers' needs. First, we freshened the look of the TechProGuild home page, making it easier to navigate by reducing the page length and rearranging the features. We then eliminated all third-party ads, banners, and pop-ups from the site.

Additionally, we updated the Tech Books library, adding almost 100 new books covering such issues as Windows Server 2003 and wireless networking. The library contains completely readable and searchable online versions of technical books from several companies, including:

  • Sybex
  • Microsoft Press
  • John Wiley & Sons
  • McGraw-Hill/Osborne
  • Novell Press
  • IBM Redbooks
  • Que
  • Sams

You'll notice that we've also created a new TPG Download Center. Now you'll find all of the TechProGuild downloads concentrated in once place and organized into areas that make downloads easier to find. We've also included key articles that relate to the featured download.

We've expanded the types of files you can download. Although the monthly TechProGuild Report is on hiatus, you can download new quarterly PDFs featuring content from the Windows Server, Troubleshooting, and Windows Client tracks. Downloads that we normally sell on our eSellerate Online Store are now free for TechProGuild members. Also, you can burn your own version of many TechRepublic CD-ROMs by downloading ISO images for free from the Download Center.

What hasn't changed

An old cliché says that, "The more things change, the more they stay the same." When we decided to update TechProGuild for its fifth anniversary, we wanted to make sure we didn't change the most important aspects of the product. Therefore, you'll continue to get the same original solutions-oriented articles written by technical professionals such as yourself.

Finally, one thing you'll notice is that we haven't changed the price. Yearly subscriptions still go for $89 per year. For a full view of what's in the new TechProGuild, you can check out our TechProGuild Tour. If you're not already a TechProGuild subscriber, you can sign up for a free 30-day TechProGuild trial.
