Win2K and WinNT 4 get a patch apiece

Microsoft released a pair of patches this week, one for Windows 2000 and one for NT 4.0. Exterminator has the details, along with virus updates from Trend Micro.

Microsoft Security Bulletin (MS01-007)

This week, Microsoft released a patch for Windows 2000. The patch eliminates a Network DDE Agent request vulnerability that could allow a user to gain control of an affected machine. For more information on this update, click on the Information URL above.

Also this week, Microsoft released a patch for Windows NT 4.0. According to Microsoft’s TechNet Security Bulletin, the patch repairs a flaw in the NTLM Security Support Provider (NTLMSSP) service that could enable a nonadministrative user to gain administrative control. Microsoft says a patch for NT 4.0 Server, Terminal Server Edition is coming soon.

Novell issues
Novell administrators can relax this week—there’s nothing new to report.
