Poll: Is BlackBerry development still viable?

In the last year, developer interest in the BlackBerry platform has absolutely cratered, according to the Q1 2012 Mobile Developer Report from Appcelerator/IDC (PDF). While BlackBerry’s overall position in the marketplace remains strong, many industry pundits and developers see BlackBerry as not being able to survive long-term.

I think there is still a lot of upside in the BlackBerry market. Its enterprise capabilities are the kinds of things that do not get much press but do generate long-term commitments to a platform. That said, I am not certain if RIM can parlay BlackBerry’s enterprise strengths into a successful strategy year after year.

Only myopic morons claim RIM's demise.

Could RIM have done things sooner? Yes.
Could RIM have managed the transition to their new OS better? Yes.
Does RIM still provide quality products? Yes.
Are people still buying BlackBerry products? Yes.
Are the 77 million current BlackBerry users going to suddenly throw their BB devices away to purchase something else? No.
Are the people who are predicting RIM's imminent demise a bunch of myopic morons, with no clue as to what they are talking about? Most definitely, YES.

Keeps me in touch with my family and friends and coworkers. I have access to a word program and spreadsheet software. When I feel the need, I also have music to workout to as well. Then there's my email, Facebook, hockey apps, Google Talk, yahoo, twitter and about anything else I could ask for.

Top shelf quality,,just right form factor and size and at current price point it most certainly the "Go to" tablet of choice.

Software Developer

I'm an Android Apps Developer and from experience I think Android is the hardest platform to develop on as there really is no tight integration and very fragment. When I speak fragment I mean too many devices to develop for as many devices have different screen sizes and support many different Api's. When you develop main stream applications for Android it's very difficult to get your apps to work on hundreds and thousands of android powered device's out there as all Android powered devices are not the same and have different specifications.

On the other hand BlackBerry OS/Black Berry Tablet OS also known as QNX Neutrino and iOS are much more easier to develop on due to there tight integration as there are fewer devices to develop for.

So yes I still think it's necessary to develop for BlackBerry platforms because of tight integration of their devices wither it's BlackBerry OS or QNX Neutrino. In fact I develop both for Android and QNX as QNX is the OS of the PlayBook and soon will replace the current BlackBerry OS to BlackBerry 10. RIM is basically going to release new smart phones called Super Phones that run QNX with real time multi core processing and is aiming to move toward QNX and replace the standard BlackBerry OS to QNX based BlackBerry 10.
