Poll: Will Windows 8 and Windows Phone 7 merge?

Takeaway: Take the poll to let us know whether you predict Windows 8 and WP7 will merge, and if so, when it will happen.

Android is a slim Linux distribution, and iOS is a scaled down OS X, yet Windows Phone 7 has a totally different set of internals than the desktop Windows line. There have been rumors swirling for some time that the Windows desktop line and Windows Phone OS will be merging. If so, Windows 8, with its focus on touch, mobile, a WP7-like development experience and runtime, and ARM CPUs seems like the opportunity to do this.

I think Windows Phone 8 is quite likely to have Windows 8 under the hood, but I could see it waiting until a later date. What do you think?

Too late, but MS is M$

I have a Droid 3, sometimes when i feel lazy, all of my tools to keep up to date with my work are in that phone, when i go to office (saturday) i dont bring my laptop, just plug the monitor to the mini HDMI in the droid and use my bluetooth keyboard and im done. i have to visit a client and they need to fix a problem in their wifi network i use my droid. All of that is just to set an example of how that mobile its begining to become a tool for me.
Windows is aiming to that integration but they are very slow compared to android and apple's situation. I think they are late to this party and may never have the stardome they once posses.

I see that Microsoft has succeeded in convincing you that the software for THEIR tablets will be more than 10x as valuable as the software available for all other tablets on the market.

Now, if they can just convince the rest of the world of this, they will be able to maintain the profitability of the Office division.

Yes, they will merge.

Windows Phone already includes mobile versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint Workspace, and OneNote at no extra cost. Windows 8 for a tablet would be hard to beat if it included the same mobile Office apps as WP7.

I own a WP7, a tablet with W8DP, and a W7 laptop with both W8DP and WS8DP in VMs. Once MS gets everything on the same kernel it's certainly going to make life easier for people running Microsoft-based shops. I understand XBox is getting at least the Metro UI, probably will get the W8 kernel also.

Once logged in, adding contacts is simple. Just mouse over any member's photo or click any member's name then click the "Follow" button. You can easily manage your contacts within your account contacts page.
