Around the Grounds: Drupal wrap, Nokia in Oz, and the why of wat

Takeaway: Get the wrap on Drupal Downunder 2012, Nokia announcing the date of its return to Australia, and is JavaScript as crazy as the haters suggest?

If you are hanging out to get your hands on one of the Nokia Lumia 800 Windows Phones, the date that they will hit Australia is March — that’s a whole 31 days of maybe. Maybe we’ll see it in four weeks, maybe eight weeks. Little wonder Australia grey imports these devices.

Over the past week a funny little talk appeared that made fun of JavaScript and mispronounced wat. Admittedly, it is pretty easy to make fun of “{} + {} == NaN”, but one of the better rebuttals on the issues raised in the talk is found here.

Drupal Downunder came to Melbourne this year over 13-15 January, and one of the organisers, Donna Benjamin, has put together the below summary of the conference. If you want to view the conference’s keynotes without scrolling, here’s the video of Drupal founder Dries Buytaert’s keynote and Dmitri Gaskin’s keynote called Growing up in the Drupal Community. Drupal Downunder moves to Sydney next year.
