Career Management

Letters of recommendation can give you an edge if done right

A positive letter of recommendation can go a long way toward advancing your career. Having someone else tell a prospective employer what a talented person you are can bring a lot of weight to your job candidacy. It’s also freeing if you’re a modest sort of person who isn’t comfortable marketing yourself. (Of course, you could also end up in the unenviable position I once did in which my former boss asked me to write my own letter of recommendation and then he signed it.)It’s always best to have a get a letter of recommendation from someone who can vouch for your expertise on the job, but you an also include one from someone in your personal life who can vouch for your character and ability to get along with others.

Here are some more recommendations for who to ask and what to ask the letter writers to include in a letter of recommendation.
