The Telegraph Media Group (TMG) has appointed Mike Seery as its new CIO.

Seery replaces Paul Cheesbrough, who left TMG in June to become CIO at News International.

Before joining TMG, Seery worked as a consultant with clients that included the Guardian Media Group and brewer Adnams. And between 2004 and 2008 he was CIO at The Economist Group, where he led the development of the group's online presence around the world including the use of open source software to support the Economist.com website.

Seery said in a statement that he aims to keep TMG at the "forefront of the digital advances" in the multimedia sector.

TMG CEO MacLennan added that Seery's expertise in the technology sector will be a valuable asset to the media group.
