Google team up with BSkyB

Broadcaster BSkyB (Sky) have teamed up with Google to develop new web based services to their customers.  This is the latest in a series of partnerships formed as internet service providers attempt to broaden the services offered and move towards providing on-demand media products.

Sky, the UK’s largest satellite television broadcaster has been offering a free broadband Internet service to their customers.  This partnership with Google will see the introduction of a free Google Gmail service using @sky.com addresses as well as Google powered search services and advertising on Sky’s range of websites.

The most interesting part of this announcement is that Sky will launch a User Generated Video portal that is to be powered by Googles video content tools.  Most people will be aware of Googles recent acquisition of YouTube--the largest UGV host to date.  This will surely give them a huge competitive advantage over other ISP’s and their attempts to launch similar services.
