45 geek movies of 2010

In this list of 2010 geek movies, there are sequels, reboots, a movie based on an animated TV show, a movie based on a classic comic, movies based on books, and one movie based on a piece of classical music.

Anyone who knows me is aware that I have a strong tendency to get obsessed about upcoming geek movies. For me, it's like being a kid and waiting for Christmas — the anticipation only gets worse the closer the release date gets. Downloading and watching the film's trailer doesn't even help — if anything that makes it worse. (I must have watched all three of last year's Star Trek trailers 80 to 90 times each.)

My upcoming-geek-movie addiction is even worse this year; there are sequels, a handful of reboots, a movie based on an animated TV show, a movie based on a classic comic, movies based on books, and even one movie based on a piece of classical music. I feel like I'm being pulled in several directions at once in an attempt to obsess about all of the movies that pique my interest. My personal tastes run the gamut from Disney to Lovecraft, with side trips to deep space; there's also the occasional comic book thrown in for good measure. Fortunately, not every type of movie piques my interest; for instance, I'm not big on slasher flicks or movies with really stupid plot lines. I'm currently obsessing about Clash of the Titans, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, and The Green Hornet.

Without further ado, here is a list of the 2010 movies that might interest geeks. I'm using a slightly modified version of Jay Garmon's rating scale (Opening night, Matinee, Video, TV, or never) to identify when I plan to see the film (if at all) during its life cycle. (Disclaimer: This list is not written in stone; movies have a tendency to change release dates forward and backward, jockeying for position.) 1.
