In the event of a zombie apocalypse, joining my team may or may not be your best bet. On the one hand, I know a lot about zombies and surviving them. On the other hand, I will shoot you if you are bitten without waiting to be sure that you really will turn because that never works out for the best.
Now there is hope for those who find themselves bitten on my team during the zombie apocalypse. The same Max Brooks who taught us how to live with the The Zombie Survival Guide has now given us the tool to know whether our bitten buddies are turning, and just how much time is left before they get the double tap.
The Zombie Survival Guide Scanner app for the iPhone and iPod Touch allows you to scan people and verify their zombie status in percentages. It's super easy to use — you just line up the marked spots and push the scan button. The subject does need to hold still for several seconds, which might be a problem if they are already pretty far gone. Of course, if your bud is already acting like a zombie, it's time for the double tap, not the scanner. Use it when a zombie apocalypse isn't happening, and you'll be surprised by just how many zombies are walking among us. I guess it's true what they say: TV does turn people into zombies.
The app is free and available in the iTunes store. Check out the TechRepublic gallery for screenshots of the Zombie Survival Guide Scanner.
