Geek Gifts 2010: Audio Unlimited 900MHz Indoor/Outdoor Wireless Speakers

Nicole Bremer Nash didn't find much not to like about the Audio Unlimited 900MHz Indoor/Outdoor Wireless Speaker system. Read her Geek Gifts 2010 review.

The Audio Unlimited 900MHz Indoor/Outdoor Wireless Speaker system offers a good value. At about $200 USD, the system comes with a transmitter, remote control, multiple adapters, and two wireless speakers. Additional speakers are available for about $50 each.

Specifications

What I like

The system is easy to set up. The speakers look nice and are available in black or white. The speakers can use batteries or plug in, making them good for frequent household use. The speakers are also wall mountable, so they are easily placed throughout the home. The range and sound are very good. Also, you don't need to be good at home wiring or audio/visual wiring to hook the system up all over the property and get it working quickly.

What I don't like

The transmitter must be plugged into a power outlet and plugged into the audio source. So if you want to use it on a television and also for MP3 players, it has to be accessible so that the audio source connection cables can be easily changed. Putting the transmitter in a basement den (where a lot of people have large TVs) can cause transmission interference problems. The sound is mostly very good, but the speakers don't handle music with heavy bass very well.

Geek bottom line

It's a good system for the price. The ability to add speakers throughout your home and property is great, especially considering that it's a wireless system. It is fast and easy to set up, which makes it a great gift because the recipient can enjoy them soon after unwrapping them. All in all, it's a great value.
