This is probably old news to a lot of you, but I can’t help being
amazed by how quickly the Wikipedia responded to yesterday’s London
terror bombings. There’s already a very healthy entry about the attacks.
It’s almost like instant history. This is the kind of thing that
traditional publishing, and even non-open-source online publishsing,
could never match–timely, peer-reviewed, relatively impartial,
always-up-to-date documentation on a challenging subject. Small silver
lining amongst the dark clouds, I suppose.
It’s at times like this that I think we should wiki-tize the whole
TechRepublic site, turn every article and download into an open-source
item that can be peer-edited and reviewed. No procedures would fall out
of date. No adjunct corrolaries would be ignored. Our members would be
both producers and consumers, with our editors simply serving as
gatekeepers and referees. Something to think about.
