Voyager one, a nuclear driven space probe released by NASA in 1977, is approaching the boundary of the solar system. Voyager 1's ?Grand Tour" has been a 33-year mission into deep space. It is itinerary has been highlighted by historic encounters with Jupiter and Saturn. As Voyager one journeys to the stars, it holds the Voyager Golden Record, a collection of sounds and pictures of life and culture on earth. I found this here: Voyager 1 nears edge of solar system after 33 years in space.

These are interesting discoveries being added to the discoveries of extremophile organisms that manage to thrive in hostile locations. The arsenic loving bacteria shows that life can exist in conditions that may be more common outside our solar system.

I think they will say they are ceasing the search for ET. Budget is likely to be the main reason.
