Comic author and artist Scott Meyer, popular for his web series Basic Instructions, recently published two comics–one helps us explain why Star Trek is much better than Star Wars, and the second one describes why Star Wars is much better than Star Trek. For those who are unfamiliar, the webcomic Basic Instructions offers simple instructions for performing an everyday (or weird or inane) task and addressing world-changing topics such as this debate.
The first comic posted is How to Explain Why Star Trek Is Much Better Than Star Wars. In his four-panel style, Meyer makes several good arguments to this point, including the volume of on-screen content, and pokes a little fun at the typical episode style. Meyer also posts a stopgap, letting readers know that the next comic will be the opposite argument.

In his comic How to Explain Why Star Wars Is Much Better Than Star Trek, Meyer starts out by comparing the level of action v. the amount of dialogue and story depth. He concludes by poking fun at the prequel trilogy and George Lucas.

I’m sure these comics spark feelings of elation and aggravation in readers depending on which side of the debate they’re on in this case. I’m always happy to see anything that can be taken so seriously given a lighthearted treatment.
