These are not the original demotivators, the original demotivators came out of 4chan.org, I remember the thread in which it was started, we used a website based motivational poster creator, that was intended solely for motivational based posters. Despairinc came AFTER the demotivators became popular, Fun fact; we actually called them motivational posters, the term demotivators didnt come till after. Oh another funfact; Lolcats also came from 4chan /b/ not from icanhazcheezburger.

I followed the link to the D&D posters, and fell in love with the one about not challenging the GM's authority. I DM/GM for a small group that has two serious rules-munchers. There are times I know they are more conversant with an obscure rule than I am, but they also know that whether I go with their argument depends heavily on whether their Bluff exceeds my Sense Motive (and yes, sometimes I roll it as well as ROLE it.) I need this poster to hang above my head at our next game!

If you can prove that 4chan has been around for 10 years, then you're wrong. I've been receiving Despair.com printed catalogs for about that long.

I run a Serenity/Firefly RPG every other Sunday, and before that I ran a D20 Stargate campaign. I made it very clear to all my players before the campaigns started that "I don't give a flip about the rules" I just want everyone to have fun. Still, every now and then, they need a gentle reminder. Last time, that gentle reminder was a pair of twin female psychic ninja assassins (why be subtle?) of much higher level than the PCs who threw them around like rag dolls for a while. I think they got the message that "provoking" the GM was a baaaaaad idea. ;)

By virtue of the dice. When DM-ing I always used to throw hidden dice rolls all the time, even when I had no purpose for doing so. Comments like "tsk, tsk", "hmmmm" (consulting the manual) "Oh dear" (just before introducing a monster that was planned to appear, to make it random, or somehow linked to a players actions or question/comment). When challenged about a rule, I would often ask them to chose a number between 1 and 100, announce if I was going higher or lower, secretly roll percentage dice, and shake my head. tee hee [i][u]Nobody outwits a DM[/u][/i] 'cos of the [b]power of the dice[/b]. (which the DM controls, naturally) I remember a space conquest game (forget its name now) where there was a card called the Filch. It gave the power to cheat. But its most powerful attribute that its power was [i][u]retrospective[/u][/i], mere possession of the card authorized all all previous transgressions. So when one particularly obnoxious player tried to use it, he was challenged. Another player asked to see the card, so was allowed to read the details. [i][u]He never gave it back, as its power allowed him to steal even the Filch card itself[/u][/i]!!! [b]ROTFLMAO[/b] EDIT: I remembered name of the game involving the filch card now, it's Cosmic Encounter, here is a wiki link about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cosmic_Encounter Incidentally, the copy of Cosmic Encounter I owned, was won at a SF convention at Kiel University. It was the prize for winning a competition by playing the game itself. It was autographed by the star guest Harry Harrison, of the Stainless Steel Rat, Deathworld and To the Stars series, among others.
