The familiar sounds of Microsoft Windows through the years

Sound can be a powerful reminder of things long since past. Whether those past memories are good or bad is entirely up to you, especially if the sounds triggering the memories are the opening and closing jingles from all of the previous versions of Microsoft Windows. TechRepublic contributor Greg Shultz took a trip down memory lane and recorded those familiar ditties for us.

Personally, I think the opening and closing for Windows 98 Plus would have driven me mad in no time — I count my blessings I never had that version of Windows.

If you want to continue down memory lane, you should also check out Greg's photo gallery of Microsoft Windows splash screens and the gallery he did of the visual history of Internet Explorer.
