Video: Hammer-smashing an Apple iPhone

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but when a couple of amateurs offer a video homage to our Cracking Open the Apple iPhone gallery -- by way of the Captain Caveman school of computer diagnostics -- we can't help but feel slightly insulted, embarrassed, and highly amused. That's video gold, people. Nice work.

That's how easy you switch the battery with an iPhone.

A little bit on the brute force side, but if some of the respondents would take a second and check out the replies they made after the first video you might have a clue. They wanted to find out the manufacturers of the components for the iPhone ASAP so as to plop some money in the stock market on those companies so that they could get in before the run up of stock values. Stupid kids? Or is this a case of Why didn't I think of that? After some of the replies that many have made anywhere from these guys being MS miscreants to mindless morons to many wanting to take a contract out on them for hurting the poor little iPhone, sniff sniff, or even how terrible when there are children starving in China. Sheesh. Now if educated people had to pass a course for intelligence before getting a diploma.

This kind of attitude is prevalent even in the grocery store check out line. They throw the items down on the conveyor belt.It is disdain and it is not acceptable.

What's the idea of this? To impress people? Then it's a old and dusty joke already been used ages ago. Or was it a serious video of a guy that tries to recover a lost email message?

I just assumed this would be better. Those knuckleheads wouldn't SUM to an average IQ. KH#1 does not know how to hold a hammer. This makes "Will It Blend? " look like cutting-edge research. Even commenting on this is a waste of time.

Well that was a waste of $650 dollars. Some people just have to much money and no sense....

You know the saying...one man's trash is another man's treasure. It's good to see not everyone worships gadgets...I was getting worried there for a minute with all the fanboys we have for PS3, XBOX and iPhone. Marketing is scary...I don't know what about this phone created the frenzy over it. I'm waiting for a company to create a mobile phone that places calls as reliably and clearly as landlines do. When that happens, maybe I'll wait to buy it the week before.

Well, there goes the warranty... Nice $600 toy too. Was that $600 + a crappy cell phone contract, or (how much) for the phone itself? Assuming I wanted to be stupid and buy it, could I use it for a better cell phone carrier? (In a word: Nope.) BTW: A light shining on the icrap would have made it easier for us to see the details... or taping it from outside the garage, not in it...

Awesome! Apple should stick to computers and leave the phone market alone. What kind of cell phone doesn't even let you swap batteries? Yeah that's right. Apple...

Must've been stolen. OR judging by their ghetto-wear and tech-finesse, they're drug dealers, have plenty of cash and simply don't care if they ruin a $600 phone.

RE: Video: Hammer-smashing idiots This is the most stupid thing I have ever seen!! It does not deserve to be posted on any professional site. These morons should be locked up for their own protection. Keep this crap off of Tech republic.

I think that these snot nosed prats should pass their iPhone onto someone that may appreciate what they have got. Unless they stole it from some unsuspecting individual... and even then we are just demonstrating the mentality that we are dealing with. Just shows the general mentality of some people - what did they actually gain from doing that?! Signed - I may not be that old, but I weep for the future :)

Why are you all assuming they are children? One of them is married and that would imply That one of them is at least partially self supporting. If this is BAD then so are the expensive latte drinks you are just pissing away after every Starbucks visit.

Disgusting. Hopefully the morons were exposed to some toxic materials during the destruction. The world could use two fewer idiots. It sickens me to know that some people find this type of thing entertaining.

1) I'ts only a $600 phone because Apple marketing can get people to pay $600 for $10 worth of plastic and glass. 2) It's not $600 down the drain. Think trickle down....$10 to the suppliers and manufacturers of the raw materials to support their business. $.50 to the pimply faced kid who sold them the phone and $589.50 to an Apple executive so he can send his kids to school to be smarter than those two idiots. Take money from the dumb and give to the...deserving?

not to be a hater, apples have their place (in the home, students, yada). supporting apples in corporate environment has shown me one thing: they iSuck. there ARE apple viruses, they have HUGE security vulnerabilities that even a total newb can exploit (yes, even hacking an apple computer is intuitive). the phone is nice. ipods are nice. apple should focus on peripheral devices and phones and leave computers to the big boys. btw - i'm posting this from a macbook. ;)

Freebird54

frame of mind - $600 is not a lot of loot to blow. Compare with running a car in a destruction derby - the same thrill of wrecking something - on a lower budget! Also - if this was done for the purpose of making a video - the budget is till pretty low. No extras, minimal expense on props - disproportionate impact for the result. I think a lot of people who as peeved at this should get over themselves - it is NOT a big deal - just your morning smile. It would be completely pointless later in the iPhone's life though!

They probably told their insurer it was lost or stolen. The insurer probably insisted that they tell AT&T to block it - no problem. Net result: if you are insured then you paid for it, not them.

Good thing I don't partake of the products Starbucks has to offer. A can of Dr. Pepper does a good enough job of caffeinating me.

Kids? I don't thinks so either. I think these are adults. Can they afford this? Probably, assuming someone's holding the camera - that's 3 people and only $200.00 each. You don't have to be rich to blow that kind of money. People do it everyday on concert tickets, professional sports, golf, getting their hair done, a tattoo, etc. None of which I consider necessary but the beauty of living in America is that you can spend your money anyway you want to whether others think it is foolish or better spent elsewhere. I personally would have preferred that my neighbors spent the $600 on the iphone instead of over $600 worth of fireworks!

sdtasch

2 questions 1. Did they try to reassemble & have it work? 2. The next time someone has $600 to piss away, could you send it may way?

jerken

I too can?t believe this video was shown, due to the criminal activity of destroying stolen property. Ok ok, there are two possibilities. One, the phone was stolen; the second, mommy and daddy have set up a trust fund for the kids and don?t care about how the money is blown. But given the neighborhood (or lack of gated driveway) I would say they are destroying the evidence of their latest heist. If this wasn?t stolen then the kids (Mature adults don?t dress like that) need to show the receipt in there next video.

ooooooooooooh $600 worth of fireworks... I'd like to have that much money to spend on fireworks. Of course I'd take them down to my in-laws' farm to set them off. And it would still be nothing compared to the display that the inlaws' neighbor puts on every year. I think my wife would let me get the iPhone before that many fireworks, though. My fireworks budget was only $25 this year. Still got a bunch of bottle rockets, though, so all was well.
