Video: Khan versus Han, the Trek/Wars space battle

Filed under Star Wars/Star Trek crossovers: Khan Noonien Singh versus Han Solo. This is one of the better video edit-hacks I've seen in a long time, though I think we all know the Millennium Falcon never would have stood a chance against the U.S.S. Reliant.

Two quibbles:

  1. If I'm not mistaken, the editor laid an instrumental disco-rock track by Queen ("Battle Themes," I think) from the Flash Gordon soundtrack over the whole thing, but didn't duck out the James Horner orchestrations from Wrath of Khan. The two don't mix well at all.
  2. Since the editor couldn't actually splice together a Falcon flyover of the Reliant, he just drops in the Falcon's flyover sound effects and uses a shot of the Enterprise near-missing Khan's ship. Newsflash: YT-1300 Corellian freighters and post-refit Constitution-class starships look almost nothing alike. If you can't do the shot right, don't do it at all. (Heck, YT-1300s look a lot more like Miranda-class vessels than Constitution, though the Defiant class is probably the most visually similar Federation design.)

Other than that, I really enjoyed it. If nothing else, the guy who put this together had a great sense of pacing, unlike most mashup edits, which are overlong and self-indulgent. Despite the implausibility of the fight, the piece hung together really well.
