Video: New Knight Rider teaser trailer

NBC is working up a new <em>Knight Rider</em> television series which serves as a quasi-sequel to the uber-campy Hasselhoff-infested 1980s show--and we've got this teaser trailer to prove it.

As we've mentioned before, NBC is working up a new Knight Rider television series which serves as a quasi-sequel to the uber-campy Hasselhoff-infested 1980s series--and we've got this teaser trailer to prove it. I'm starting to warm to the casting of Will Arnett as the voice of the new KITT (Knight Industries Three Thousand). The Cobra Mustang in lieu of the Trans Am? Not so much.

I do love Mustangs, but KITT is a Trans AM. They have a new Camaro, No new Trans AM? The Trans Am was always a better looking car anyway I smell a bomb.......

Well, at least the current writers strike in the US isn't going to make any difference to the quality of the new Knight Rider compared to the Old one ...Hehe

The way I look at it, Knight Rider has the chance to be a success or another flop. Sadly, happy-campy doesn't sell in the 21st Century. Realism does. Look at the "remade" BSG for a case in point... So, as this being a "sequel" vs a "remake", as a fan, I'm loving it. Hass = Michael Knight, Trans-Am = KI2K-KITT, and we'll have a new Michael and 'stang KI3K-KITT... Now let's see how they handle the scripts / plots to see if KR will succeed. I wouldn't mind a light-hearted approach to the "gritty reality" everyone wants these days...

I hate to admit it.....I fail to see the point. Yes, we enjoyed the original...laughed when they did Viper and have obviously (and quite consciously) forgotten about "Knight Rider Two Thousand". I realize that producers and programming execs are responsible for getting shows to air, but could someone please at least try to CREATE something. I'm tired of reliving ages 14 (Bionic Woman) to 20 (Knight Rider) over and over. P.S. I think Mustangs are cool.

What does everyone have against a Mustang?!?! To each his/her own I guess...but I'd take the Cobra.

oh dear god... why did you have to make a "contiunation" series that destroys all that was holy and sacred from the original?!?! Rustang? Really? That's what kills any hope of this series for me.

Didn't they learn anything from the last time Ford sponsored KR? What was that "Team KR" crap. "When crime is too big for one man to stop, it takes a whole team of Fords and a pair of talking motorcycles". I think GM really missed the boat on this one. They got the new Camaro out for Transformers and they could have pushed the new Trans Am with a tv series. Or maybe they could smell the crap and are purposely staying away, hmm....

Lets see NBC's score: Journeyman-13 episodes (scrapped) Bionic Woman-what was it..9 episodes? (scrapped) Knight Rider...what do we think? about six episodes,then...you guessed it (scrapped?) Please lets have new ideas, and not "it worked 20 years ago" etc.

I can only really think of one reason why KITT shouldn't be a Mustang, and that's because the original was a Trans-Am. That said, I don't believe there is currently a Trans-Am in production, so the Mustang may have been chosen for that reason. I personally really like the Mustang. It's a nice sporty fast car with a reasonable price tag. I'll have to watch the show to decide whether or not I like KITT being a Mustang. The car still looks sweet though. I'd drive it.

Last year Ford made a limited edition "Pink Ribbon" Mustang available. Only came in black and the badge on it was the Mustang pony against a pink ribbon. Custom mats with pink ribbons in both the front and the back. Black leather interior with pink piping. Saw it when I did the Komen "Race For The Cure" last year. Sweet! http://www.fordvehicles.com/warriorsinpink/

All the cars in team knight rider were fords. Horrid plain crappy fords. Now there is nothing wrong with mustang, but every playboy with a few grand has one in america. They are ten a penny. The trans-am at the time was quite a rarity, hardly no one had one so it made K.I.T.T unique. It is a shame they sold out to ford (advertising deals drive american shows and movies, makes it even more pathetic in the case of this). The voice of the car sounds like that of the main car in team knight rider. That show lasted about 5 eps before they threw it to the lions. Hopefully the story, acting, etc will be so good the crappy car can be over looked..

What about a Volvo, or a Saab? Hup. Just removing my tongue from my cheek. Anyway, why not try an Aston Martin? DB9? Yeah ok, so it'd break down all the time and the trim would fall off, but why not eh? and who says us Brits don't have a sense of humour?

I think you're right. I'm not very fond of Ford, but it does seem to be the closest equivalent today - only "pony" car out there. There's the new Camaro (will there be a new Trans-Am?) but it's not out yet. Cars like the Viper, Corvette, or even more exotics are too flashy - don't really want to attract attention when you're doing surveillance. At least not when you don't have to. The old Trans-Am and the new Mustang are both common enough that people wouldn't give much thought to seeing one. Dodge Charger might work, but even though I'm a Dodge fan it doesn't seem quite right for KITT. Though in that case, maybe KITT should be a Civic. ;-)

Boxy and sexy is still good stuff and the Mustang is a heck of a quarter mile car I'm told (not such a cornering powerhouse) but back in the day the "sleak and sexy" was part of KITT. My first reaction (weeks back with the photo album) was that they should have used some sleak and sexy autoban eating monster like a Dalfino or the Viper as other's have suggested since it's an American show. Gah.. I think I got it. They can't use a Viper because a few years back there was another "supercar solves crimes" show based on a driver and non-AI Viper with colour chaning pain and all sorts of other gadgets. There may be something there (copywrite/trademark or viewers memory) that they wanted to avoid. Still, have to see the show at least once and regardless; it's still at gadget full AI driven car solving crimes so Trans-Am or Mustang.. it'll be pretty, things will blow up.. car chases will insue (I think I just turned 14 again).

it's.. it's.. KITT the Nova hehe.. I couldn't resist. You braught the image to mind of KITT's AI slapped into the local gearhead's Nova back in hometown Canada. You could hear that thing kilometers away on cold clear nights.

How many Mustang Cobra's do you see in a day? Few if any on a daily basis, you add in the racing stripes, (KITT did not have nor need), and you have a Saint Bernard amongst new born kittens as far as blending in. It's like doing another Duke's of Hazard Movie and then deciding to make the General Lee a new Charger or worse any Ford. Why not just find some of the original cars and use them it would still be better than a Mustang or the Red KITT they had in the movie several years ago. Heck I would prefer they put KITT's brain back in the vintage '57 Chevy to a Mustang.

It would need NOS to match the speeds you could get out of a Cobra Mustang, wouldn't it? Could make it an Accord. At least those can come with a V6 instead of a 4-cylinder. Maybe a Honda S2000. that's pretty sporty, and while a lot less common than the Mustang, probably isn't going to stand out like a Viper or something more exotic than that will.

That would be a nice handoff type thing. I'm sure I've seen the same thing in a few other shows but they completely escape me outside of the last movie in the immortals movies and tv shows (for those geek enough like me to get sucked into Highlander). (Edit): Battlestar.. that was one of the other shows that braught on some of the older characters. I hope they can continue Knight Rider like the people behind the new Battlestar Galactica series was able to do.

I just turned 14 again, too. I remember the show about the Viper. I also remember that pretty much every car in the show was a Chrysler product of some sort. I'd like to see the old KITT make some sort of appearance somewhere in the show, like maybe locked up in the Knight Industries vault or something. Or have the Hoff driving it in a cameo appearance.
