Sci-fi author, blogger and all-around authority Robert J. Sawyer points us to this YouTube video interview with Alexander Courage, the composer who wrote (among many other things) the original Star Trek theme music. He's also responsible for a particular sound effect made famous by the show's opening sequence. Yeah, this is Geek Trivia waiting to happen.

what about the door noise? did he have something to do with that too?

Great Blog on the theme composer for Star Trek. My eyes lit up when I saw the old intro.

The door noise was someone's sneaker squeaking on a smooth floor. The Enterprise D's warp core sound effect is someone digesting pizza ;-) (honest) Did u also know that the master system display in engineering of 'D' (big schematic on wall) has such things as the ship's duck and the ship's ferrari on it (and other sundries, but cant remember them all)
