I’m in Boston for a couple days this week for the Enterprise 2.0 conference. I thought it was fitting that the conference was kicked off with an event that was not an official part of the conference agenda but covered a question that a lot of the attendees came to Boston to answer: Is Enterprise 2.0 a valid concept that can help businesses?
This session was arranged by the BSG Alliance and Veodia and was held in the same hotel — the Boston Westin Waterfront — where all of the Enterprise 2.0 conference activities are taking place. The event pitted Andrew McAfee, an associate professor at Harvard Business School who coined the phrase “Enterprise 2.0,” against Thomas Davenport, a professor at Babson College who currently holds the President’s Chair in Information Technology and Management and who does not believe that technology itself will make organizations more democratic and participatory.
