Poll: Does your IT department support the iPhone for business users?

While Apple is attempting to make the iPhone more palatable to businesses and IT with its SDK, improved security measures, and Exchange support, it will still be a tough sell. TechRepublic is polling its members to see if their IT departments currently support the iPhone.

They give me $25 a month for my Iphone use but they buy and pay for everyone else's blackberries - at least they let me stick with my Iphone

Depends on what you mean by support...

We have a few Iphones on our network.

Thus far, it's been pretty uneventful, though I'm not personally impressed with the Iphone as an overall biz tool. Some cool features - some counterbalancing limitations - overall a wash.

Our infosec needs are not as high as they might be for tech companies and such, so our users have considerably more freedom.

We've just announced a policy of allowing employees who would otherwise be issued BB's to purchase their own Iphones, and we'll pay the monthly.

They do get to use our contractual subsidy, so they get a pretty huge price break.

It's a pretty low risk proposition, as the BB-entitled users are higher level employees, and we have very low turn over. We have enough lines under contract that we always have more than enough upgrade eligibility to cover attrition.

We unofficially support the iPhone and ask those users that want one to purchase it themselves under our company plan. We use Active Sync successfully and have pushed password log-ons to protect company email. Supporting phones for the company, I have found that once the iPhone is configured, there is very little, if any, follow up support needed. Not necessarily the case with BBs.

Once logged in, adding contacts is simple. Just mouse over any member's photo or click any member's name then click the "Follow" button. You can easily manage your contacts within your account contacts page.
