Read TechRepublic from your BlackBerry, Treo, or Windows Mobile device

Takeaway: Although the mobile Web still has its challenges, there’s no doubt that lots of us are regularly using our BlackBerrys, Treos, Windows Mobile devices, and other smartphones to access mobile versions of our favorite Web sites. We’re pleased to announce that you can now access a version of TechRepublic optimized for small screens.

Although I’m not a huge fan of reading the Web from my mobile phone — as you probably gathered from my recent post Five reasons why the mobile Web still doesn’t work — I do have about 30 of my favorite sites bookmarked on my Treo 700 and I regularly use them in airports, taxi cabs, and occasionally while I’m pushing the cart in the grocery store.

Earlier this year, I compiled two lists of mobile sites that are worth viewing from the small screen:

another browser option

Another option for most of us with Java-enabled phones/pdas is to download and install Opera mini. It's amazing what they do to get the entire website visible and accessible on our tiny screens.
I use a Treo 650 and the java patch you have to install first can be tricky to get up and running properly... but once you've got it, as I said, the increase in speed and maneuverability is almost mind-boggling compared to the built-in browser.
And it's free,and works with most phone companies' java-enabled phones. Point your phone to www.operamini.com and see what you think. (Jeez, that sounds like an advertisement! Good thing this is open source!)

I'm sure we'll do more mobile pages. Like anything, it's just a matter of time, resources, and user demand.

we would have done it a long time ago. happy

Because we have a diversity of many different backend platforms that work together to power the site and dynamically build the pages, it will take a variety of different solutions to translate to mobile.

Once logged in, adding contacts is simple. Just mouse over any member's photo or click any member's name then click the "Follow" button. You can easily manage your contacts within your account contacts page.
