Rumors have surfaced that new features in Gmail are in the works, and they may be a face-lift to the popular Web mail since its arrival in 2004.
Two posts at Wired point to the new features that are expected to arrive in Gmail.
The origin of the news is traced to the translations for "Newer Version," "Gears not enabled" in other languages. What appears to be in the works is an offline functionality enabled by Google Gears.
Also, the Gmail accounts may display the recent IP address that logged in to ensure users that no one else is logging into their accounts.
Gmail has led the way in popularizing the conversation mode of e-mailing. Since stiff competition is bound to follow with other online e-mail services, the new features will be eagerly watched.
