Toshiba introduces the world's first high-capacity 32 GB SD cards

ToshibaToshiba has just announced the launch of the world's first 32GB SDHC card along with the 16GB SDHC card and 8GB microSDHC card. The cards could be a major memory boost to cell phones and other portable gadgets.

Here's a quote from an article on Tech.co.uk:

Toshiba is releasing the 16GB SDHC memory worldwide from October, and the 32GB SDHC card and 8GB MicroSDHC Card will go on sale worldwide from January 2008. UK prices have yet to be confirmed, although the Japanese on-sale price of the 16GB SDHC card is initially expected to be around 40,000 Yen (£175) and the 32GB SDHC card 80,000 Yen (£350).

The gadgets are getting smarter and the demand for memory to support the media-rich devices is bound to be high. No wonder that memory device manufacturers are bracing for the challenge. Check out Paul Mah's blog about Seagate's foray into flash storage; and let's not forget that Toshiba is planning to introduce 320GB hard disks for laptops; and Samsung announced a 160GB drive for portable devices. Indeed, it's a wheeling time on the memory front.

Can't wait for the 32GB SD cards to get to the US, I hope they are available at the 2008 Consumer Electronics show in Las Vegas. I already have 2- 2GB Ultra 150X High Speed (Class 6) Lifetime Warranty cards that I love and two others of the same I use with my tiny RCA MP3 Player $20 on sale, about the size of a matchbook, Love it! I do like my Toshiba Pocket PC though and may get one to use with it. As far as the Toshiba new 320GB HD for laptops, do you know if it is dual core? I have had my HP, Hewlett Packard for about a year. I already have an HP 240GB HD laptop with the expansion base that can accommodate an additional 350GB and can be portable depending on your needs. I have a LAN at home but can pack it all up and catch a WIFI hot spot and be just fine. I have 590GB memory . total including the portable expansion base. HP may have higher availability now that surpasses the Toshiba new 320GB HD laptop. HP has a 320GB 5400RPM SATA Dual Hard Drive (160GB x 2) and a 400GB 5400 SATA Dual Hard Drive. Current availability from HP is just fine for me now. I love it. I have a Pavillion DV9000. I call it the three deuces, 1)dual (2) core- Intel 2)2GB RAM and 3) 240 Hard drive. Can't say enough good about this laptop. it screams and is capable of so much, also has awsome Altec Lansing stereo speakers on the expansion base and laptop. Toshiba speaker quality not so hot.
