Vista Ultimate: Good deal or Microsoft revenue enhancement?

Industry insiders challenge Microsoft promises that Windows Vista Ultimate not only provides everything found in Vista Enterprise and Vista Home Premium but also adds Ultimate Extras.

The online newsletter Windows Secrets found Windows Vista Ultimate's sole promised benefit, the Ultimate Extras, to be a straw man in the argument for your IT funding. No new Extras have been released since Vista's January rollout, and the DreamScene videos-as-screensaver Extra promised in March has stalled because it does not work in Arabic or Hebrew. With no actual team behind Utimate Extras, it's easy to see why, three months later, it's still a pre-release item.

That newsletter article continues to note other Extras are either available as downloads or are trivial (e.g., a poker game).

Did you spend extra to get Ultimate? If you did, was it a good deal? Join the discussion.

Ultimate extras is the biggest rip-off perpertrated by MS. They should be shot and burned down.

It has been 9 months since metsfan421 said "Too early to say..." I still haven't seen the extras. I did receive a bug update to one of the "preinstall" extras but haven't seen anything new since I got my copy installed. My intention was to keep current with MS offerings, but I might have just wasted $$$ on vaporware. I should have known better, Microsoft has been notorious for selling vaporware since the company was founded, never actually completing any of their OS projects, but instead releasing another incomplete OS version. I think Microsoft is good software, but the company shouldn't continue to entice us with items that do not, and probably will not, exist.

Well I decided to get the whole package. Almost fell for the Bill Gates version. Which is rumored to have free shares in stock. I am disappointed about the extras. I think it was a decision that I might regret in two years. I just wanted to make sure I got the full package of Vista. I preferred XP Pro over XP Home. So Ultimate over Business, Premium, Home.
