Windows XP SP3 release candidate now available

Hot on the heels of the Windows Vista SP1 release candidate is the release candidate of Windows XP SP3.

Hot on the heels of the Windows Vista SP1 release candidate is the release candidate of Windows XP SP3.

SP3 does not offer much in terms of new functionality and is more of a combined roll-up of earlier patches and updates. It goes without saying that this is what enterprise folks are looking forward to.

According to Microsoft, the final version of Windows XP SP3 will be released in the first half of 2008. It will be the final major upgrade of the Windows XP operating system.

You can download the release candidate over at Microsoft's Download Center. As usual, install with caution, because this is hardly the final release version.

Is there a Web site with an itemized list of the SP3 contents with an indepth explanation/review of them? I've been searching for over an hour ( Google ) and cannot find a review that is more than a paragraph long. Not very detailed if you ask me.

At least the link and then the pdf had much more detail than you had previously discovered. You could be a bit less sarcastic towards folks that at least try to provide a bit more data, but no you have to act like a pompous ass. Each new addition was listed with (albiet a small) description. The rest is hotfixes, security patches, etc. All easily researched. I will try much harder to not respond to assistance requests from you. Windows XP SP3 includes all previously released Windows XP updates, including security updates and hotfixes, and select out-of-band releases. For example, the service pack includes functionality previously released as updates, such as the Microsoft? Management Console (MMC) 3.0 and the Microsoft Core XML Services 6.0 (MSXML6).
