Poll: Has the Web browser become your most-used interface platform?

Web proponents have long touted the Web browser as THE future development platform, or at least THE future user interface. Indeed, more and more systems are being access through a browser–both online and offline tools. On any given day, I access over half the systems I regularly use via a Web browser. What about you?

Of the systems you or your users work with each day, how many are accessed through a Web browser?

I can see using a browser as your main interface has a lot

of appeal to many people as it makes things easier for them. But that is a totally different thing to going totally cloud based.

I know a lot of Linux installs use Konqueror to view the disc folders as well as an Internet browser - personally, I don't like it (edit - Konqueror that is), but can see how it makes many things easier. However, the interface is still being used heavily to access things locally stored on the computer.

It makes for easier code to reduce the interfaces down to one, but then you have to go to the trouble of making that interface very changeable to suit people and take up less space on the screen.

I do a lot of work on text on Open Office and I have personalised toolbars to have just one that shows everything I regularly use from several toolbars. I've even combined my Firefox Toolbar and menu bar to one line, to maximise the window space I can use. The idea of having the browser toolbar and menu bar then the OO toolbar and menu bar taking up space just does NOT appeal to me, the same with any other application. If the browser is going to be used to open and view the application, then it should open in a new combined window - which may be defeating the original purpose.

Using a combination of local and web it would have to be Konqueror without a shadow of a doubt as it handles both seamlessly.

That said for the time I'm stuck on a Windows based machine it's Firefox. There's a host of development related addons that make my life easier though there could, of course, be more! wink

Once logged in, adding contacts is simple. Just mouse over any member's photo or click any member's name then click the "Follow" button. You can easily manage your contacts within your account contacts page.
