Windows servers are known to developers primarily for .NET Web applications. After all, if you were using PHP, Python, Ruby, or another similar language, you could just deploy to a Linux or BSD server and save on licensing, right? All the same, some organizations find value in Windows servers beyond the ability to run .NET applications, and use them for deploying Web apps written in non-.NET languages.
