A lot of companies are making a tidy profit selling a variety of code components, but I don’t know many developers who use these components, other than a few specialized items. Between the base platforms like Java and .NET becoming more capable and the pressure of open source, there are a lot of free alternatives. Still, the third-party code components are often very well documented, have support, and usually look and work extremely well.
I used several paid code components in a current project and thought they were worthwhile. I’m curious to hear whether TechRepublic readers are using code components, too.
