12 Apps of Christmas, Day 11: DeskConnect

Some TechRepublic editors and bloggers highlight their favorite app in this 12 Apps of Christmas series. The eleventh app, recommended by Matt Nawrocki, is DeskConnect.

The 11th app of Christmas Matt Nawrocki gave to you is an iOS app called DeskConnect.

In the spirit of the holidays, we thought we'd create a smartphone series based on a popular Christmas song. The 12 Days of Christmas starts on Christmas Day, but our 12 Apps of Christmas begins today, and we'll continue to post one app per day, leading all the way up to the holiday. However you celebrate this season, and whatever device you own (or platform that it runs on), we hope that you find some gems over the next 12 days -- as these are the apps that the TechRepublic's editorial staff and bloggers actually use and feel passionate enough to write about. Here's what Matt Nawrocki had to say about one of his favorite apps called DeskConnect.

By design, iOS devices do not have a mass storage device mode that allows you to easily copy files back and forth between your iPhone and a Mac. Fortunately, an option exists to lower the walled garden a bit with DeskConnect. After downloading this free app, you simply sign in and pair your Apple devices together for easy content sharing, including documents and photos (Figure A).

You can send photos from your iPhone to your Mac.

In addition to simple file transfers between Apple devices, you can push web pages you are reading on Safari to another Safari session seamlessly, send phone numbers from your Mac to your iPhone, a street address to Apple Maps, and so much more (Figure B). Functionality is also fully extensible via AppleScript.

I chose this app, simply because I can really enhance my workflow between all my Apple hardware. If Android devices are supported eventually, that would be the real ticket!

Matt you're in DEBT! Some of us are Android users and do not (and probably will never) own a device with iOS. So why post an article - from an awesome idea to post an app per day - that comes only for Apple? Please make it up for us Android users, as the idea of this section is very appealing.

@roger.marin Hi Roger! I'm one of the creators of DeskConnect. You'll be happy to know that we're working on an Android version!
