Manage multiple account passwords with Passwords Plus

Find out how to use Passwords Plus to manage login information from your mobile device.

The human brain can sometimes have a difficult time managing logins for multiple web sites, especially if you follow the best practice of using unique passwords across all accounts. Fortunately, there are web browser extensions that can store an encrypted database of all your passwords. With the explosion of smartphone web usage, solutions for secure password banks exist for mobiles as well. DataViz, the company behind the popular DocumentsToGo mobile suite, has a solution called Passwords Plus.

For just $9.99 (USD), Passwords Plus — available for both iOS and Android — effectively brings the desktop password saving functionality to the mobile scene with a master encryption key and a plethora of password template types for different style accounts. Then, whenever you need to login to a site on your phone, you can call Passwords Plus to the scene, and you're good to go.

After you purchase Passwords Plus, getting started is pretty easy. Just follow these steps:

  1. When you first launch Passwords Plus, you'll see a welcome screen with a license agreement (Figure A). If you find the conditions to be agreeable, tap Accept to move on to the initial set up.

  3. Next, you'll need to set the Master Password (Figure B), which protects the gateway to the rest of your passwords. If you have Passwords Plus installed on a PC, use the exact same password in order for stored passwords to sync properly.

  5. You'll also be prompted to set up a SmartSync ID that you can share with all of your devices. Follow the quick prompts, and Passwords Plus will generate the ID (Figure C). Write this down in a safe place for future reference.

  7. Once you're at the main page, touch the plus symbol in the upper right-hand corner of the screen to add a new password-protected account. For this example, I selected the E-Mail Account option (Figure D).

  9. Enter all of the information you wish to store on your particular account. You can enter your password manually (Figure E), or you can have Passwords Plus generate it automatically by clicking the splotch graphic located in the password field and setting the password generation parameters. When you're finished, tap Use Password (Figure F) to save it to the profile.

  11. Once the profile has been saved locally, Passwords Plus will push an update to the cloud to sync with your other devices using the service (Figure G). Repeat this process for any other accounts you wish to save.
