Poll: Do you use the cloud for your development work?

Developers, take this one-question poll to let us know if you are using cloud-based tools and files in your work.

In the last several months, I have had a number of briefings and read my fair share of press releases about development tools hosted 100% in the cloud with no local installation needed. I have been moving in the same direction. For my job, the only local applications that I use are a decent text editor, Visual Studio, and the OutSystems Agile Platform stuff; even then, all of my files are stored and version controlled by cloud servers.

I always felt that software development would be one of the final bastions of the client/server model in the fight against the cloud, but now I am not so sure. I am curious to hear whether you're using the cloud for your development work.

Do I really want the fate of my business determined by a third party that doesn't necessarily have my needs and interests at the forefront?

And non-local web servers, file servers, database servers? What is the cloud, by the way?

I work a lot with Drupal sites, and it makes a lot of sense to edit files using the online tools - I can implement a small fix from anywhere, including my mobile using cpanel and touchqode apps. With office VBA projects, it is all offline.
