Motorola Droid Xyboard arrives in time for holiday shopping

Takeaway: Do the Motorola Droid Xyboard tablet offerings have what it takes to make your holiday wish list?

Motorola’s Droid Xyboard tablets arrive in Verizon stores today, giving holiday shoppers just enough time to pick one up — or at least struggle with whether or not they should buy (yet another) iPad alternative in the tablet market.

We’ll have quite a bit of coverage about the Xyboard in the upcoming weeks, but I thought I’d share some of the basic information about these devices (the 8.2-inch and 10.1-inch Xyboard) for those inquiring minds that need to know.

Specs

  • 4G speeds with hotspot (can share the connection with up to eight Wi-Fi devices)
  • 1.2 GHz dual-core Texas Instruments’ processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • Runs Android 3.2 Honeycomb
  • In-Plane Switching (IPS) displays
  • 7,000 mAh battery
  • 5-megapixel rear-facing HD camera and 1.2 megapixel front camera (zoom and LED flash)
  • Capable of universal remote functionality (for TVs, DVRs, and Blu-ray players)
  • 8.2-inch pricing options include a 16GB for $429.99 and 32GB for $529.99
  • 10.2-inch options include a 16 GB for $529.99, 32GB for $629.99, and 64GB for $729.99

Without having either of these devices in my hot little hands, it’s difficult to truly give my opinion about how they’ll stack up against the competition. However, just by scanning the specs alone, I’m a tad skeptical. I was really looking forward to Android’s Ice Cream Sandwich, and the price point — especially with a two-year Verizon contract — isn’t going to win over anyone on a budget.

Watch the video below, posted by TechnoBuffalo, and let us know what you think about the Motorola Droid Xyboard tablet offerings. Could it possibly make your holiday wish list?
