At the Cisco Networkers 2008 event in Barcelona, Cisco announced a software client to accelerate access to remote applications called Wide Area Application Services (WAAS) Mobile.
WAAS Mobile, as it will be known, is a software client that is installed on a mobile worker’s PC. It accelerates TCP-based applications to the mobile worker by reducing the number of TCP round-trips made between the server and the client and by using caching technology.
Cisco also announced that its partnerships with several industry majors will translate into acceleration tailored across specific products.
WAN optimization gains a lot more prominence in these times of increased mobility among workers.
These new announcements come at a time when Juniper Networks sounded the death knell to its DX line of application acceleration products.
