Motorola will be working on two WiMAX infrastructure contracts that it has clinched as part of Taiwan’s national M-Taiwan project. The goal is to cover Taipei County’s two largest cities, Jhonghe and Banciao, with a combination of WiMAX, Wi-Fi, and 3G technologies, building over FET’s (Far EasTone Telecom) existing mobile infrastructure.
Announced Monday, Motorola said it secured the contracts from Taiwan’s FET, which controls about one third of Taiwan’s local wireless mobile market. The ambitious M-Taiwan project is planned to cover Taipei County’s two largest cities, Jhonghe and Banciao, with WiMAX, Wi-Fi and 3G technologies, building over FET’s existing mobile infrastructure.
FET has 6.4 million subscribers, and the idea is to provide a full suite of “multimedia services, home media center, multimedia VoIP, IMS advanced services, remote care, personal security, and hot spot digital advertising services” – all via a WiMAX wireless environment.
