Help name TechRepublic's new gadget blog to win free TechRepublic swag

TechRepublic is preparing to launch a new blog that will be a spinoff of our popular Geekend blog. The new blog will take a practical approach to gadgets and digital lifestyle technologies, including consumer electronics, gaming systems, mobile tech, and much more.

The problem is that we are having a hard time coming up with a good name for the blog. We've come up with lots of ideas and the ones we like the most are "Life with Gadgets" and "Practical Gadgetry," but we're not completely sold on either of those yet.

We're looking for something that expresses the fact that this blog will take a TechRepublic approach to digital lifestyle, meaning we'll talk about the way the technology really works and not the way the marketing copy tells you it works. It also means that we'll talk about the technologies that are actually being used and not just the hot new flavor of the month.

If you can think of a name for this blog that captures all of that and serves as a good general name for a gadget blog and isn't already taken, please post it in the discussion. If we choose your suggestion, we'll send you a free TechRepublic coffee mug plus a TechRepublic collared shirt (L or XL).

Uhhhh.... "Republican Gadgets?" or how about "Electro-Stimulation" or "Electro-Stimulators?" "The Depletion Region?" "The Minority Carrier?" "The P-Doped Hot Carrier?" "ToIP?" (Tech over IP) "Gnurds 'R' Us?" "No Visible Social Life?" "The Only Bad PR is No PR?" "The Elektra Complex?" "We Care, We Really Care. Really." "Edison Blushes" "This Week's Nameless Dread" "Marshall McLuhan's Revenge" "Do Murdering Robots Dream of Electric Chairs?" "De Gustibus" (That's Latin for you folks in Rio Linda.) "Is That the Latest Gadget You're Fingering in Your Pocket, or Are You Just Indifferent to Seeing Me?" "Bzzzzzzzzz!" "Wasting Away Again in Ampere-ville" "Timeout" (In the sense of losing interest in a tedious process) "Darth Vader Presents" "Ex Machina" (More Latin and my only sincere blog name recommendation)

Eric is a nice name. My fish's name is Eric. Eric fish. He's an halibut. I chose him out of thousands. I didn't like the others, they were all too flat. I hear you say that I am a loony. I am not a loony. Why should I be tarred with the epithet 'loony' merely because I have a pet halibut? I've heard tell that Sir Gerald Nabarro has a pet prawn called Simon - you wouldn't call him a loony! Furthermore Dawn Pathorpe, the lady show jumper, had a clam called Stafford, after the late chancellor. Alan Bullock has two pikes, both called Chris, and Marcel Proust had an 'addock! So if you're calling the author of 'A la recherche de temps perdu' a loony, I shall have to ask you to step outside!

"Go Go Gadget!" is already taken. I kinda like "Practical Gadgetry", but in the spirit of the competition, "Gadget U." "Toy Tech." "Gadget Source." "Gadget Life." "E-Life" "Stuff like they started running in PC Magazine just before everyone canceled their subscriptions. :-) "

It has a Bob quality with out being a Bob. And he avoids the more flamboyant names like Steve, Mike, or Ralph. Also it is a halibut. I like halibut. Fried with a a little lemon. Therefore I like Eric.

In the end, we decided to go with Practical Gadgetry (one of the original ideas). You can find the new blog here: http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/gadgets/ We appreciate everyone who submitted their suggestions, and as a way of saying 'thanks' we will send a free TechRepublic coffee mug to anyone that posted a suggestion. So if you want a TR coffee mug, click "Send message" in my signature and send me your mailing address. Thanks! Jason

it is also an anagram of reci which is (or should have been) the ancient etruscan word for a rudimentary form of calculating device not dissimilar to the PDA except that it was somewhat less portable, requiring a display some 4' x 6' (scholars are not clear on this), several pounds of stone appendages to represent the data, 2.5 pounds of fine sand imported from Atlantis as a lubricant, and not least a power supply consisting of seven slaves, three camels, four tourists and a lemming. pretty good credentials, I'd say.
