TechRepublic needs bloggers for Desktop Support, Storage, and Wi-Fi

TechRepublic is currently in the process of hiring bloggers in three key topic areas:

  • TechRepublic flagDesktop Support - Cover best practices for working in a help desk or desktop support environment, dealing with end users, and handling various desktop management technologies. This will also include troubleshooting tips for hardware, operating systems, and applications.
  • Storage - Managing, monitoring, and securing various storage technologies will be the focal point for this blogger. Plus, the responsibilities will include product coverage of various storage devices.
  • Wireless - We need someone who can cover Wi-Fi and WLANs from the both client and access point perspectives. This coverage will include tips and best practices for deploying and managing wireless LANs and coverage of the latest Wi-Fi equipment and solutions.

We are looking for IT professionals who work in these topic areas on a regular basis. You need to be able to write clearly and take direction from a TechRepublic editor. You will need to be able to write at least 2-3 blog posts per week and follow the discussion threads on those blog posts and respond to questions from users. If you are interested, send us an e-mail message. Please tell us which topic you are interested in, list your qualifications for writing about that topic, and tell us why you are interested.

I have a boss at work and one at home. No disrespect, but I don't need a Tech Republic boss on top. It's an interesting opportunity. I just wish I had the time.

...in the Tech News roll for almost a month, but would be able and willing to blog in the Desktop Support roll as well. If you would like to contact me, please email my name with no spaces or periods at gmail dot com. Andy

Okay, I will cut out time from my "TODO TASK LIST". but I must clearly state at this time I am involved in the launching of "ViiBlast.com". A Digital Mobile Messageig application/service which allows individulas to send/recieve PIX/Music/Videos/TXT on their mobile devices. ViiBlast Is NOT Carrier or Network Dependant and does not require any downloads into the phone. It simply uses the resources built in the phone. The mobile end user must be SMS/MMS/WEB enabled to be able to recieve the Videos/Music/PIX/Text to their mobile phone device.. So if you still desire a Blogger for mobile devices please contact me. A brand new member who uses the entire post to talk about his product. He posts an e-mail address in the clear but doesn't allow private messages. Smells like canned spiced pork to me.

We'll just let the guy blow his own tooter, and keep the discussions going as best as we can without his help. I wish I had time to do the desktop, but Between work, side interests and my disabled wife, I'm done when I get home. Whew!

Are you looking for web loggers? The descriptions read like you're looking for columnists, and not for people to keep logs of daily thoughts and activities in these areas.

We define blogging pretty broadly on TR. Our blogs are primarily about two things: tips and conversations. Tips can include instructions, advice, and best practices. Conversations can include opinions, random thoughts and insights, columns, and pointers to other stuff around the Web. Of course, our hope is that TechRepublic will be the place to discuss all of that. TR's blogs serve as containers to find a bunch of stuff on specific topics (Security, Linux, Windows, IT management, etc.) and mini communities for discussing it.

I actually have the time, but I'm not qualified. I'm down on the very front lines, and daily activity and user tricks are about all I have to offer; actual "log" stuff. Best practices, tips, etc., are out of my league. Please put up a big announcement when you do find someone for a support web log. It sounds like something I would like to read.

On the Web, webloggers and columnists sorta overlap quite a bit.

I'll schedule it into my calendar between my database work, firewall log checking and ID10T responses. I don't need a lunch do I? EMD

User : jblow dept: etc. User can't find certain file that apparently the IT department deleted out of hate for stated individual user. Error code: ID10T ** That is classic it has been awhile since I heard that, actually since my days as help desk for an ISP.

We could just send you a case each month and you could eat while writing blog posts? :-)

I am pretty much interested with this one but somehow its time consuming knowing that my work as a Technical Support for DELL is very toxic and somehow short of time... this is a nice page if this will be realize...More Power Guys!!!

But seriously: I'd love to contribute to this effort, but I don't know if I will have enough material to write about in order to make the deadlines...and come to think of it, how much long green is a blogger going to receive, if at all? I will have to think about this a little more before I jump in...

I just wish they were asking for bloggers on a subject that held more interest for me.

Moving to a new apt, working weekdays, new "events" on weekends... too much non-free time or I'd really like to do the Desktop Support. If you need a part-part timer I'd volunteer.

IT engineers pend years and months doing courses and training in order to do what they do. Most of the questions here are almost beyond the scope of cabalities of the questionaire. How do i setup DHCP? I opened up my computer and now it doesnt work? Most of these people do not have the faintest clue of what they are doing or what they are getting into.. you cant expect someone to write a whole essay on DHCP. The least the people can do is do a bit of reading themselves on google or whatever and then come here and ask more specific questions.... No wonder most of the questions here are unawswered...people think they can setup up wonder by reading a HOW TO two page instructions letter lol.... The support here is great....for louzy questions.....and very great for some REALLY hardcore questions.....but no room in the middle for moderatly difficult questions...

I would like to try it, but I'm afraid I'd not have the time enough to dedicate the way I would want to.
