I am actually up early enough to see sunrise every morning.

I'm guessing it will be mostly sunsets as techies are notoriously late risers.

or either one of us by that matter. We're both up at the crack of dawn or darn close to it every day.

I use mobile phones for calls. Some of them have a low quality camera, but some don't. (Yes, I carry several phones, due to work and travelling; you should have seen the faces of the customs officer in Baku, when he discovered 5 phones on me. :) ) For making day-to-day photos, I prefer to use my nice little compact camera. When you run campaigns about mobile phone cameras, I feel a bit left aside. The phones I use have cameras so good that you most times can see the difference between a human face and a yellow school bus. But their photos have nothing to do with aesthetics. OTOH I figure you want to exclude people who carry a suitcase for their camera equipment, but feel a bit squeezed here. :)

It was a good question, Tobi - and I apologize for such a delayed reply. The market is really competitive right now for mobile phones, and one of the "perks" of said devices is the camera. Have a nice quality camera on your mobile phone could sway some folks to choose one manufacturer, vendor, or model over another. And not everyone carries their cameras everywhere they go... but phones are usually attached at the hip! :)

What do I have to subscribe to so I receive the initial challenge?

have more camera phone challenges next year too! I'm going to be upgrading a couple of our phones but can't do so until December. I have awesome sunset pictures, but they were all taken on a regular digital camera (some of us have room in their purse!)
