Thanks to ghunter591, catworld, Datacommguy, Ganyssa, NickNielsen, jdclyde, boxfiddler, dsr, and April for participating in this episode of TROLOV.  These folks are eligible for some free swag!

Last week's Question of the Week was sent in by KSoniat, but it's directed just to the TR members who attended the Community Event in Louisville, Kentucky. She wants to know, of all the board games that were mentioned beforehand: "What did you play? Who played? And who won?" Here are some of their responses:

Ganyssa: "Board games? We brought board games? I barely even touched my phone…"

NickNielsen: "I don't remember any board games. In fact, the closest I remember we got to a board was when JD broke out the carrot cake and we all bellied up to the board. I think we were more interested in actually meeting each other and talking face-to-face than in playing games."

Jdclyde: "There were NO board games played at the gathering. I had several decks of cards, chinese fingercuffs, a puzzle (that Soni couldn't figure out) and carrot cake. Never did end up playing cards."

Boxfiddler: "The games I brought didn't leave my hotel room. My guess is that the others can say the same. What I played? No telling. Who I played with? No telling. Who won? We all did."

This week's Question of the Week was sent in by TR member dsr: "Do you know if dbqwiksite is still in business?"

And I'd also like to know, in preparation for BlogHer 2009 next week in Chicago: ""What questions would you like me to ask the BlogHer founders, or any guest speakers, sponsors, or attendees at the conference?" Please send only legitimate questions to trol at techrepublic.com. Voice messages, e-mails, and photos = swag If you'd like to earn some free TR swag, send in an e-mail with an answer to the Question of the Week, a brand new Question of the Week, comments, and/or photos to trol at techrepublic.com.

You can also leave a voice message -- our toll free number is (866) 414-CNET (2638) and our Skype ID is tr.out.loud.

We have lots and lots of swag. If you'd like a complete listing, shoot me an e-mail, and I'll send a reply.

Okay, Am I the only one who has not been able to download the audio file? I either get routed back to the TR home page, or I get just 9K and it won't play. Thanks, Chas

Also I have to thank you on Behalf of Toni Bowers as she would need to ask something along the lines of Sure she may know what she's doing But What She Look Like? You saved the last question being asked. :^0 Col 0:-)

I did however notice that what Sonja Posted WebGrrls this week did the same thing till it was supposedly fixed. Maybe that fix broke the rest of the links. ;) May have to wait till Soni gets back to get this one fixed though. :( Col

No one 'fessed up - but Jason had pictures of Pool and shuffleboard? No Darts JD?

were available and free to play at the dinner location after the Event. I requested the room with pool tables and dart boards, but we ended up on the other side of the building somehow. (scratching head) That's alright though, because Jason did have a lot of fun closing down the restaurant playing shuffleboard. (it's true... LOL) So, no darts for JD - but he did kick my butt in a game of pool. What a nice guy, eh? You're SUPPOSE to let the ladies win! ;)

In my younger days - I surprised quite alot of people. I no longer look so young and innocent, and haven't played for a bit. I'll have to brush up. Whomped a few in ping pong too. ...who me? competitive? 0:-)

My daughter entered an "Invention Convention" through her school and she designed a plexiglass top for the foosball table so the ball COULDN'T bounce out. Then she changed the ball to a ping pong ball and made an "upper goal" worth 2 points. Talk about a hysterical game!!!! :)

I played for my Uni team. We call it "table footy". I guess that I will have to practise, though, as it's been (mumble) years. The gauntlet is thrown down... :D

jdclyde

to have got a foosball game going. Would have OWNED everyone.... B-) Spent many a break getting the "blink" shot down. You blink, and the ball is past you.....

is one I like. Nothing like hitting the puck so hard it flys off the table and traverses over 10 feet :^0

I absolutely LOVE ping pong... when we had a table at the office, I had to beg people to play with me. I'd try to take it easy on them and not whoop 'em too badly, just so they'd play with me again - but when we consolidated office space, the ping pong table had to go. All we have left (besides Wii and XBox 360) is a foosball table, which I've never really gotten into. Foosball for me is just spinning the heck out of the handles and hoping you accidentally shoot a ball in the goal.

Great job as usual Soni. I like how you thank Scummy for being less scummy. :D Keep up the great work. By the way, did you have to add the 'legitimate' disclaimer for the BlogHer questions? Now none of us can send one in. :p ;\ Wow, did you really only have one blooper for this week? I am disappointed. :D

however when making a change such as encrypting the drive, then running a system restore to before the encryption happened, your drive should turn into a brick. with that in mind, it is a good idea to kill all restore points when doing disk encryption setup (or immediately after).

shasca
shasca

We have just started Bit locking our Laptops this Fiscal go round. Are you saying that doing a system restore on them will grenade the drive?

Jacky Howe

it sounds like it's in the Twilight Zone I would see if I could get it replaced. ;)

4 months, then today -- read errors. tried another NB, same thing, pulled it out and put it on USB, no problems. Scanned it, no problems. Put it back in the shell -- no go. Ran BIOS util -- no go, boot to Linux disk -- reads fine. Ran a disk check util, tests fine.

on some Systems it has to be Cable Select and on others it has to be Master. It's a WD.

looks like it is going to be pretty much staying backed up. For the encryption project I just installed and encrypted my main systems HDD, foud a problem in the install which brought up more questions/possible problems. Finally got it straightened out, and the vista/bitlocker drive took a dump -- but only when used as th eprimary system drive (read errors). it is fine when not used to boot from. see, plenty of things to do -- just got through the main points, and with my backup system dead, I am not going to play too much on my main system with the drive encryption. Oh, if you ever use a drive encryption SW (I didnt do this) never try system restore if it goes wrong :0 I am told it will make the drive a brick. Funny that they dont put protections in place, like cleaning the system restore checkpoints before installing ?:|

Why so much downtime? You are just that good, you are always caught up. They looking to hire anyone???

The Scummy One

and never took your bet cause I know I would ultimately lose :0 yes, an addiction -- especially when all I ma doing right now is setups and scanning my dead drive :( Luckily, it was only the Vista system that died -- not worrying much about it. Funny, nothing seems to be wrong with it, except in any notebook as the primary drive, it reads disk unreadable errors. But in the USB drive, it works fine. Running diags from the NB it is fine as well. boot to it, and nothing but read errors

I doubt many members know this, but Jacky consistently sends me questions from the forums to populate the Questions of the Week post - EVERY week. I've asked you all a few different times to help me out, and a couple of you did for a week or three, but Jacky continues to send them in. Now, granted, the Questions of the Week post in TR Out Loud doesn't get very much love - thumbs up or discussion posts - but we really want to highlight/surface some of the questions in the Questions forum ... it's a great place to find info, but a lot of it gets buried. So, thanks Jacky for helping a girl out with this endeavor. And also thanks to Hal 9000 for sending in something each and every week for TROLOV, whether it's an answer to the Question of the Week, a photo, or a comment about the show. I really appreciate it!!

Scummy and Gentleman is way beyond a Oxymoron that I'm surprised that the Auto Correct Function on your Computer didn't cause Windows to hang and never work again. :0 But as it's currently cold here I could do with some decent weather where it gets to the mid 40's that would be lovely but then again that's C not F. Almost warm enough to go outside when it's like that. B-) Here it was predicted to start the day at 5 C but because of the Wind which pushed in some clouds it only got down to 8 C. Unfortunately it didn't feel any warmer when the sun came up for the rest of the day. :( But having days in the mid 70's F would be a lovely Sporing Day for me. :p Col 0:-)

I am currently all alone in a 2 rm place. Sunny -- yes. its been great weather recently :D right now, sunny and about 75 -- clouds burning off, should be in the high 80's today. next time get the video all sorted and we'll come up for it! you know what us smokers are like....face it, we going to spend our time outside :) I hate being cooped up indoors all the time anyways..have enough of that over here.. yes...its raining AGAIN today.. i like it here, but if i win the lotto i am getting out of this godforsaken rain hole :( anyone got a spare room for me somewhere sunny and warm???

The Scummy One
The Scummy One

which means both points are moot. And then the real kicker -- The GG cam didnt even have GG in it AND nobody got her 'in the mood' :0 geez, do I gotta do everything myself?

jdclyde
jdclyde

one, as this was not planned out before hand, we did not have a microphone to send that audio. That could be a problem. Second issue, the smokers hit the 90 degree patio to light up instead of coming up for a drink and video.

The Scummy One
The Scummy One

arose because JD was in charge of the setup of the GG cam. All those that voted for this are to blame though -- they should have known better. Afterall, non techs seemed to have no problem streaming their videos (even live) :^0

HAL 9000
HAL 9000

What with all of those Techs there they couldn't get a video to work. That just isn't believable. :0 But if all you are implying here MJ is that you couldn't get GG to perform as required now that is completely believable. I was told that all of those USB powered things wouldn't work right due to the different Voltage involved between the UK and USA. :^0 Col 0:-)
