Just when everyone at TechRepublic started to feel safe, Sonja bought a Flip video camera. What exactly does this mean? TR Out Loud on Video (TROLOV) goes mobile! Find out who Sonja corners in the office to talk about the top five discussions of the week. Of course, TROLOV wouldn't be complete without TR member participation, and there was plenty to pluck from this time around. If you're not a fan of video (sorry about the Flash, Jaqui), you can choose to just listen to the audio file.

Voice messages, e-mails, and photos = swag Many thanks to CG IT, CaptBilly1Eye, Mike_G, w2ktechman, Tammy, and all of the TR members who sent in guessed to Hal 9000's Mystery Object of the Week, which was a CPU Removal Tool for 286, 386, and 486 CPUs. No one submitted that exact answer, but for those of you who were close, send me an e-mail and I'll hook you up with some TR swag.

After the video was recorded, a TR member who hasn't received any swag in the past year submitted an acceptable answer to Hal 9000's question, and so he won the Black & Decker snake light with a TechRepublic logo. The juicy details will be included in next week's show. However, I have another snake light to give away to a TR member who comes out of the woodwork (otherwise known as a lurker) and participates.

This week we have two questions for everyone: Name that TR member (refer to the youthful photograph within the video), and the Question of the Week, submitted by w2ktechman: What do TR members prefer to do with their Linux or Mac systems, and what do TR members prefer to use Windows for? Submit your answers to TROL at cnet.com.

Keep those comments, questions, photos, and small video clips coming, folks! You can also leave a voice message on our toll free number: (866)-414-CNET (2638); or you can leave a message via Skype, and our Skype ID is tr.out.loud.

We have lots of free stuff to give away, including mugs, shirts, toolkits, frisbees, disposable cameras, and the following lists of premium products (there are a lot more titles... I just haven't had time to organize and sort them all):

Thanks, Sonja. It was great to see all the TR background slaves in their work environment. :)

First, I have the world's coolest editor. Second, I also have no doubt that I'm extremely fortunate to be a part of the TR family. I've been around enough to realize that this organization is the best. Thanks for allowing me to be a part of it.

That clip with the Thumbs looks familiar. I managed to have the same amount for two weeks running. Its good to see that the DataBase is working properly now. ;) Great show Guy's and Gal's keep them coming. :D I hope that CG IT is the first in with the Video Clip. ;)

Don't need a snake light, but still need 3 more muh-ugs. Looking forward to that video, CG IT. I have some 'suggestions for questions', but I don't think I should voice them publicly! ;) Thanks for another enjoyable TROLOV. grr... etu

Another great job Soni. Too bad we didn't get the chance to meet up while you were in Mad town. :( Next time, eh? :) I could send in some video footage from my helmet cam the next time I go biking if you want?! :p

Heh heh heh. Let me rub my 2 brain cells together and see what I can come up with. I wouldn't want you to taunt me a second time. :D That was a Monty Python reference for those who didn't know

The video played perfectly in Opera, all I had to do was be just a little patient, enough for a couple of swallows of coffee. Great job! :D Like JD said, some of us really look forward to seeing these. I know I do.

]:) Attagirl Sonja, but you look like you are having to much fun to call it "work".... Question, with the flip, how BIG was just the toni interview (size of file). Keep it up! Many of us look forward to this.

Whoo Hoo! Finally Trolov is posted. On a side note, the maintenance that TR recently performed must've done some good. I was able to start the video without standing on my head, facing the east, while humming the 1812 overture.

Lots of questions for you guys and gals this week: Did you like the Flip video coverage? Do you want to see more in future episodes? Who is the TR member as a kid in the photograph? How would you answer w2ktechman's Question of the Week? Now that I received clearance for TR pet and TR tattoos photo galleries, are you going to send me more photos?! Inquiring minds want to know....

as a regular contributor AND the first one to attempt sending it -- I think he deserves the first member video.

but be forewarned, I get motion sickness... That's not a good visual, is it? Yes, Jelli - next time, we'll definitely have to connect when I'm in town.

so I thought to send a question as well. Since I was already 'thinking' bout it! :D Oh, I also sent in My answers for that question :D

I almost "accidentally" included video from my Madison trip. There was some footage with me drinking two beer bottles at the same time (I didn't have a glass, and you had to combine the two kinds together... seemed like an easy solution). Oh, and there was the hackysack clip where I landed on my rear. You can guess which order they were filmed!

Now its finally up and I am having bandwidth issues... :( I'm only up to the Selena part...

I think... yes I'm ready... I think... yes I am.. I think... Ok I'm ready... new web cam is installed along with a new mic and some new ram - oh and one new keyboard (For those who own MS stock - you can thank me for the rise - all my new keyboards is sending the stock out of the roof) ;) :D -Tammy :-) PS: Sonja make sure you pass out all the new blind folds - don't want to be scaring folks here ;)

CG IT

don't really want one but since it's not available to the non riff raff its a good complaint item the TR flag on the barbee... good thing he wasn't cooking when he put it on the top else the whole thing might have caught on fire...

The Scummy One

This would ROCK! Instead of giving a 'heads up' while taking the Cam around, try getting small videos WITHOUT WARNING :^0 Yes, take footage of a bunch of TR Staff's 'quick breaks' doing many a thing that we all wanna see!

I got a camera that saves video to an SD card and allows me to carry spares so that I don't have to download every 12 minutes. You will see what I am able to capture from the 3 Day with it. It is slightly larger than the Flip and cost me less than $20 USD more than the Flip. The camera I got is by Aiptek. You might also want to check out the RCA Small Wonder.

jdclyde

but I have other ideas for getting you one... ]:) Just sign the release that is in the mail, and ..... :x

Sonja Thompson
Sonja Thompson

Yeah.... uhm.... you TOTALLY need to get one of these, GG. I'm just glad I got it first so that I could tell you about it! :D I think Mark Kaelin should crack one of these open, and then when he puts it back together - most of the stuff he reassembles still works - we should offer it as elite swag. Hmmm... putting that on my list of things to badger about! Edited because it's Friday and my brain is already enjoying the weekend.

the case of mugs??? I never got a reply :0

Because I'm going to use that Obscene Word soon. As I've been Working way too hard the last few weeks I've been way too busy to even think of anything. Even that CPU Extraction Tool was just something I found when looking for something else. :( How about I submit a picture of a Cable Tester and ask what is this? Should prove interesting. :D Col

If the Web Cam still works after you turn it on for the first time the Vids are safe to post. :^0 Col

while it was hot and it caught fire...that would be something.... TR is hot!!! rofl .... my clip is nothing more than walking outside while shooting....it's short maybe 30 seconds but I added titles, credits and music which pushed it to 1.38 minutes and about 10 MB....

HAL 9000
HAL 9000

Personally if they are in a socket I use a small screwdriver but then again I'm lazy as I can't be bothered looking through my tool box for the right tool and IC's are cheap as Chips. :D Perhaps I should dig up some Memory Chips that came mounted on M'Boards in the old days. :^0 Col

w2ktechman
w2ktechman

after Zif :0 so I never actually used one of those. However, to me it appeared to look like it should pull IC's off of the board. The jagged edge, and looking like a pry bar. However, I was thinking more of BIOS chips and the like. I have seen people pull them with those cheap a$$ IC pullers that come in every $10 tech tool kit, and screw them up.

I demand an impartial jury!!! Mark, Jason, and Toni for starters!!! Oh and then I get to do my own edits- only fair. Maybe I can get Bill and John to help. I'll fix you, my pretty. You and your little dog too!

But remember, by the time I edit it, the Flip will somehow - miraculously - win. :D

Tig2

I have 240 minutes plus 120 minutes in the case. I have 3 days to cover and a whole lot of stills to boot. My Aiptek can kick the Flip's @$$ and I am willing to prove it. Oh- and I will still get still pics as well. Get ready ladies and gents- the first 30 minute TROLOV will be coming to YOU!

Sonja Thompson
Sonja Thompson

My Flip against your Aiptek, any day. You don't have to download the Flip every 12 minutes. With the model I bought, I have 60 minutes of footage. Plus, the video and audio is great for the Web, which just happens to be where I want it to end up! Did I mention that it's handy, fits in my pocket, and is non-obtrusive for people you may be interviewing? Now that I've gone Flip, I won't go back to a digital camera (and I have three of those).

The 'G-Man.'

HAL 9000

I'll give you whatever you like how about a truck load of the Video Thingies? It passes every test that I throw at it and then runs like a complete Dog! like 15 minutes to reboot from Vista to Vista. Horrible thing really and it's not even Vista Ready it came loaded with Vista New. ?:| Biggest heap of junk I've ever seen even with XP on it it takes a second to scroll down 1 line on the screen. Worst thing is it was sold as a Business Class unit when it's not even fit for Domestic work. :( Personally I would be embarrassed to throw this in the rubbish bin it is so bad. But it's ideal to run heavy earthmoving equipment over. :D Col

What you do is: Get another flip video as a prize for the first video for TROLOV. Then you send it to me, I do a vid, and then, by virtue, I get to do a vid first, and win the Flip! Hey, it works for me, ok??!! :p :p GG
