Video: IT Dojo Bloopers 2008

We've aired over 30 episodes, since launching IT Dojo. And, we've filmed a lot of bloopers. This holiday season, we're celebrating with an episode that's dedicated entirely to our host screwing up. Watch as Bill Detwiler flubs his lines, growls at the camera, and even does a few bad impressions.

We've aired over 30 IT Dojo videos, since we launched the show back in April. And as those of you who hang around until after the credits know, among that nearly 150GB of footage are a lot of bloopers. Here on IT Dojo, we're celebrating this holiday season with an episode that's dedicated entirely to me screwing up. You'll see me flub my lines, growl at the camera, and even do a few bad impressions. Enjoy.

Bill better not run for any elected office or assume the presidency of any major corporation ... or we will retreive the bloopers reel from the bowels of TechRepublic and make it into a campaign commerical or play it for the shareholders. Happy holidays to Bill and his long suffering videographer.

If California voters can forgive Arnold for Red Sonja, I'm sure Kentucky voters will excuse my bloopers. Have a great holiday season!

I liked the one asking Who wrote this? - I did. Thank you, that was funny.

Thank you for the kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed the bloopers.

Love the bloopers...my favorite section by far is "Say what?" ones. Perfection is boring anyway.

No bloopers on the end of the Blooper Reel? I'm decimated.... devastated.

During the introduction, I flubbed my lines and decided to keep going. Afraid that's the only blooper original to this video.

starting at 5:20 in the video is the best, you should do all the Dojo video's with the headband and that voice. Wood gork Bill, CRAP, Good work Bill. Merry Christmas to you..

Bill, would it be correct to assume the growling happened during Vista videos? ;-)

Bill Detwiler

Vista has garnered its fair share of my growls, but I'm an equal-opportunity growler.

For one presentation - I think Bill should use a white headband and be dressed in a Ghee when he does his presentations. He should bow into the IT Dojo before and after his presentation and otherwise do his usual serious presentation. Or, at the very least he should do these things for his blooper video for 2009!

During the early stages of development, we considered several additional "dojo" elements--bowing, wearing a gi, and incorporating more dojo phrases. Eventually, we decided TechRepublic's business IT audience would appreciate a more conservative approach. I like the idea of bringing it back for the 2009 blooper show.

Dress in ghee, it might make it a little sloppy...plus appeal to an entirely different audience, I think...

Real people ??? Real show. The knowledge always comes better blended with a sense of humor

OK Bill, I must confess, I enjoy the out-takes at the end almost as much as the IT Dojo articles. Keep up the great work.

During development, we debated whether or not to add bloopers at the end of each video. Both Jason Hiner and I felt very strongly about including them, and I'm glad we did.

I'm glad you watch the videos--even if only for the bloopers. Perhaps you'll eventually find a tip that's useful to you. Thanks!

If you have XP Home or Profeshner ... and not once.. but twice ...LOL

I had to laugh watching all of the takes.... after saying "professioner" TWICE, he simply said "XP Pro." Way to improvise, Bill. Oh, and thanks for making video editing entertaining. :D

Now everyone can see what Sonja has to work with. Thanks for putting together such a great blooper video and always making the "real" videos look great.

Hi Bill! Got a good laugh out of your transitioning between Kentucky and Radio Voice. :) Reminded me of when I called a friend working for AT&T years ago - I'm from Canada, and don't have what I'd call a definable accent. But apparently the people answering the phone with "Thank y'all for cawling AT&T, how can I help y'all?" were identifying me as "That guy with the funny accent". :) (For the record, two of my best friends are from Kentucky! :D ) Regards, B.V.V.

Had no idea there were bloopers involved. I'll have to stop just reading the transcripts, then.

Bill, you made me laugh. I spent a short time assisting in making company videos. It is always hillarious to watch an individual screw up and make everyone laugh. Everytime my wife pops a DVD into the machine to watch, I ask if there is a gag reel. In most cases, I enjoy that more than the movie. Yea, I know a sick mind at work. Thanks and keep up the good work.

Bill Detwiler

I'm with you. I enjoy the gag reels, deleted scenes, and commentary every bit as much as the finished product. Thank you for the kind words.

Particularly after any Pixar production. Even the major studios are starting to run out-takes and bloopers behind the credits.

This is pure, shameless, unadulterated self-delusionary ... self-delusionary? Blahblahblah. Self promotion. There! I love it.

Crediting Windows for a Linux tip works for me. Thanks Bill for the Dojos, always useful and, if you hang around, always amusing.

When I was filming that episode, I knew I would slip up and say "Windows" at least once. sure enough, I did. Perhaps it was a self-fulfilling prophecy. Thank you for the kind words.
