Finally, the release candidate for Windows Server 2008

Microsoft calls it RC0 and it is the availability of the first release candidate for Windows Server 2008. You can download a copy directly from Microsoft or request a DVD.

Here are some links about Windows Server 2008 that might be of interest to you.

Whoopie I'd think about trying it, but I'm too busy downloading upgrades/patches for the other Microsoft products some of my clients still run. Big question..... Will this version still allow Microsoft to download and install files with auto-updates turned off like the "old" software?

Is this going to be a full version of Server 2008 or just a small part? I would like to install it on my virtual PC for a while to see if it could handle my network.

Yes the install is UI is Vista like and suffer the same problems as Vista. It seems you need 1GB or RAM and an Partition of 16GB. Apparently MS put some code into both Vista and Windows 2008 to prevent multiple copies being run with a single licence. If you sip stream the code fix, it works or wait for the cracked copy of windows 2008 to come out. Put Vista still has not left the secure test environment of vmware to go on physical HW

Sounds like a good ideal, test it before you either upgrade or install it on a new system, WHY NOT.

in a VM as I type this. Its Vista UI heritage is obvious, I really hope the whole GUI is not Vista-like. Though, learning to manage a Windows server with no gui could have its uses.

It will expire but you will get the entire OS with a choice of loading the full installation or the server core.
