How do I reopen a tab in Internet Explorer (IE) after I close it?

In this post, we will show you how to re-open a closed tab in Internet Explorer.

Have you ever accidentally closed a tab in IE and been unable to find it or reopen it? The other day I was browsing Windows Marketplace and I came across this find. It is called IE Open Last Closed Tab. Let me show you how it works.

Simply use Internet Explorer like you normally do but whenever you accidentally close a tab, you can use the following hot keys:

  • ALT + X key
  • ALT + Q key

ALT + X will automatically re-0pen the last tab you closed. ALT + Q (Figure A) gives you a Quick Tab style view of the web sites you have closed. This tool also supports 64 bit and Internet Explorer 8. It is a great tool to add to your IE arsenal.

Figure A. ALT + Q key gives you a thumbnail view of all your previously closed tabs.

Does Some setting needs to be done before using the Alt+x and Alt+Q? I tried to do it but its not working on my IE.

Maxthon is a browser based on IE, but with many, many additional features, including superb TAB functionality. Go to: www.maxthon.com You won't be sorry, my friends. I've used it for years now, and it's almost the first optional download I do on a new system.

How would you expect to reopen a TAB in a browswer that doesn't have tabs??

If not, why do you expect other people's work to be handed to you for free? Anyway, if you could read, you'd see that the description of the download says "License type: Free" I'm pretty sure that means you don't have to pay for this. Rick

It wasnt working on mine because I had roboform shortcuts that were identical. I remapped them and it worked for me. Please make sure that nothing else (programs installed) are using these shortcuts. I figured out that was the culprit when I loaded the software in a virtual machine. It would be great if this software allowed you to specify your shortcuts. Good Luck!

I doesn't work for me either. Running MCE 05 and IE 7. Alt+X does nothin, while Alt+Q opens my roboform menu.

This is pretty handy, thanks. But I am getting a little concerned with all the addons on my IE7. They slow it down, especially at start-up. I have disabled all the ones I do not deem as essential. In my Admin account I have every addon disabled, and it starts up very quickly.

He was probably just being cautious. I've been tricked by the "free download" thing where I waste my time on a 50meg d/l only to find sure the "download" is free but you have to pay to actually USE the download;-). Or, the "free" trial that nags you to death to buy, buy, buy ;-(
