Video tip: Add a tile to the Windows 8 Start Screen

Sometimes you have to create a tile on the Windows 8 Start Screen manually. This video shows you how.

We have had several email requests from Windows and Office Blog readers asking how they can create a tile on the Windows 8 Start Screen for an application they have installed. The answer is surprisingly simple, yet frustratingly non-obvious.

Matt Nawrocki took a blog post I published in November 2012, Quick Tip: Create a tile on the Windows 8 Start Screen, and turned into this video that shows you how it is done.

But it takes an extra click. Hover your mouse over the right top or bottom corner of your monitor until the tool panel pops up. Click settings - power - shut down. (or sleep or restart)

I always use ctrl - alt - del, you get the shutdown power icon on the bottom right of the screen.
