Who hasn't sat through a badly constructed, poorly delivered presentation? This list of mistakes will help you avoid some of the most commonly made PowerPoint blunders.

PowerPoint is a wonderful tool for helping speakers and instructors organize and deliver information. But as with any tool, it has the potential for misuse. Security expert and author Jesper Johansson spends a lot of time attending events, delivering--and listening to--PowerPoint presentations. His recent blog post titled Death by PowerPoint describes some of the mistakes he often sees presenters make. We've pulled them into a list that includes missteps such as:
  • Reading the text to the audience directly off the slides
  • Worrying more about the template than the substance of the presentation
  • Making poor--or painful--color choices for text and background
  • Overusing bullet points
